Norton 2010 SpySweeper and Microsoft Essentials Brings this system to a crawl.

by Ralph Walker Sr. on Sep.01, 2010, under Windows XP and Vista Updates for Hardware and Software

Today I got a call from a customer that had issues with her work connection. She needed to connect to her email from home to her work. It would not connect, stating something about Proxyerror. Well upon arriving I notice the HP computer was taking a very long time to boot. After it booted I immediately saw the issue. This PC Was crawling, it had Norton Anti-Virus 2010, Webroot Spysweeper and Microsoft Essentials, wow. I am surprised it booted at all. So I had to remove Norton 2010 first, I thought Norton had improved their product. Well maybe I had to much faith, or hope but man it still bogged this system dowwwwn. So Norton came off, and I rebooted. Now Spysweeper, the cust. said that Spysweeper would constantly scan but it never found anything. Yea, I seen this before. Someone recommended it to me. Well I learned that this was not a great product either. Why would you want to keep scanning the hard drive if no viruses are found. That is just slowing down the computer. So now Webroot was gone. Now I had to remove Microsoft Essentials. It took a long time to uninstall but it finally uninstall and I rebooted once again.

Now the computer was clear but it was still sluggish, I was beginning to think I was going to have to reinstall Windows XP. I thought about it and said I need to scan for viruses anyway just be sure. So I downloaded and installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and ran a quick scan it found 2 infections right away, by the time it finish it removed over 100 infections. So you tell me what is Norton 2010 doing, it surely is not protecting your PC, not to mention it is slowing the crap out of your processor. If you have Norton Anti-Virus any version you need to get rid of it NOW. I do this for a living folks, and it is not protecting your PC and you will eventually lose your data and have to get a service tech out there like me. My customer called Geek Squad before she called me and they told her it will cost $299.99 as an estimate and they could not get out onsite to her house for 2 weeks. Or she could bring it in the store, which would still cost her the same and it would take her 2 weeks to get it back. She had already had a bad experience with the in store Geek Squad. She took in a notebook and it was doing the same thing that it was doing before she took it in. They still wanted to charge her for a broken notebook. Say What!!

So if you want to get rid of Norton you need to click here now, for cheap alternative to Norton Anti-Virus, and you need this program also to keep your system Malware free. This program is what I use to scan the hard drive once I get rid of any out-dated or non-working protection. Click here.

So I rebooted the computer and my customer was watching me the whole process, she said WOW, the PC is running faster than ever. I said thank you and collected my fee.

Stopping and Removing Scare Ware Software

Stopping and Removing Scare Ware Software

After being attacked by a Scare Ware program called Doctor Virus, which tried to scan my PC while logging into my face book account.  I learned a valuable lesson that I will share with you today.  If you’re connected to the Internet your computer is mostly likely infected.  More than 80 percent of all computers are currently infected and most people do not even realize it.  More on that later.  Here is the solution to stopping a Malware attack.  All you need to do is press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys.  I normally press and hold down the Ctrl-Alt keys and then press the Del key.  This will bring up the Task Manager.   It may look something like the below screenshot.   Now click on the application tab and KILL that offending application.  In my incident it was a program called Doctor Virus. Just highlight the process you want to kill and click on end task.  Simple but it works.   Your infection may be different here is current list as of 10/2009.

Below is a list of current Malware or fake Anti-Virus that is floating around on the Internet:

SpySherrif – Also can be called System Security, SpywareStrike, SpyShredder and Spybot

WinFixer – Also can be called WinAntiSpyware, AVSystemCare, WinAntiSpy and Windows Police Pro

MacSweeper- Also can be called KiVVi Software, Cleanator.

Green Antivirus 2009 – Also known as Green AV

Ms Anti-Virus 2009 – Also known as Windows Antivirus, Win Antivirus, Antivirus Pro and Antivirus Pro 2009 and Doctor Virus

As you can see these programs change their name constantly almost daily.  If your computer is infected by one of these listed programs your computer may exhibited the following symptoms.

  • No Internet connection
  • Browser only goes to the site that allows you to purchase the program that is informing you are infected
  • Blue screen after Windows XP or Vista logo
  • Slow booting
  • Computer running very slow and it is constantly locking up
  • Desktop background changed to you are infected or some other advertisement
  • None of your icons work
  • No Wi-Fi connection
  • Constant Pop-up and or Ads
  • Constant scanning without you telling it to

You may have different symptoms so please leave a comment to tell me what symptoms you are experiencing and I will add it to this list.  I personally have seen these symptoms and have successfully fixed each computer that was infected.  This is the purpose of my blog The Protector, its objective and focus is to provide up to date and accurate solutions and how to prevent your PC from becoming infected.  The best was to keep up with my blog is to subscribe to my daily feed. Go to the orange feed button located in the upper right side of this Blogs. Thanks

If caught in time you can remove all of these infections by using an updated Malware scanner. I highly recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, you can download it here.  This is the free version.  Download it to your desktop.  Install it and before you scan, make sure you update it.  Once it is updated.  Do a quick scan or complete scan, both options work. The quick scan takes 30 minutes, the complete scan takes hours, depending on your hard drive capacity.   Once it finds any infections it will display everything that if finds.  Select the remove all options.  Now you need to reboot the PC. Your PC should be virus FREE and back to normal operation.

As mention before this is the FREE version.  For a better and hassle free 24-7 PC protection, I highly recommend the Professional version of Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware, you can order it here only $24.95. The software will automatically update itself and it will scan and delete any infections that if finds. If you have not been infected, you will and if you do not have a copy of Windows XP or Vista to reload your computer.  You will need a professional computer technician to service your computer.  Average cost of a 2-3 hour service call to reload your operating system and to reconfigure your hardware devices is about $299.00 or more.

Thanks,
